How to restore dynamics in mastering using compansion
A case study, how I set up compansion; how it works, and ultimately the sound difference in the dynamics of the material.
Introducing Compansion; a technique I first read up about in Bob Katz' mastering audio which involves the pairing of compression and expansion to bring out some of the dynamic and micro-dynamic detail and impact from otherwise overcompressed/comprimised material. This is something I've only had to use a dozen or so times, but a powerful technique that can be used to wiggle your way out of a tight spot!
